BTK: Not Dead Yet

Workers at an office building just east of downtown say a suspicious package that may be from the Wichita serial killer BTK has given them an eerie feeling this week. They say the package was found in a UPS drop box Friday night outside their office complex, the Omni Center, at 250 N. Kansas. Police announced Tuesday that they "recently" obtained a letter possibly connected to the BTK investigation, and that it...

fear and loathing, campaign 2004

"I look at elections with the cool and dispassionate gaze of a professional gambler, especially when I'm betting real money on the outcome. Contrary to most conventional wisdom, I see Kerry with five points as a recommended risk. Kerry will win this election, if it happens, by a bigger margin than Bush finally gouged out of Florida in 2000. That was about forty-six percent, plus five points for owning the U.S. Supreme...

long and hard is the road that leads out of hell (and southern california)

Waking up to my second day in LA, the clouds have parted and the sun is shining; one of those pristine visions of life on the west coast where the palm trees are greener than green and the pretty people look even prettier. So, of course, Harold and I pack our bags, toss them in the back of the rental car and hit the 405 for a race through the state. There...

that is why you are called a little man by me

If you've been following the comments in the previous entry, you're either wondering what the hell is wrong with me or you're quoting along by heart the gospel of Peter Haskett and Raymond Huffman. This being the holy relic that is Shut Up Little Man. Jeff told me about Shut Up Little Man first when we worked together on Michigan Avenue. "Have you heard about this? It's these two drunks living...

one of us

Hey, look. Vincent Francone (hi google!) has a blog now, apparently borne of his week manning the desk of the thoughtpeach.com team. Well....that and this: My father seems to have gone and gotten a spot on blogspot, which freaks me the fuck out. Again, I am really up a tree on this one. Who is this man who I call dad? Our man in Taiwan, DC, was once elected to join...

pixies. 10.01.2004

Somehow I wasn't as excited as I should've been. I felt fairly restrained, reading the internet on my phone while The Thrills literally almost put me to sleep. I didn't really feel it in my bones until the lights went down. And then the Pixies took the stage, the room filled with the scent of marijuana and the band mopped the floor with the entire crowd. 2 hours, barely a stop between...

fact checking the debate

Full Disclosure: Bush is a pigfucking idiot who I giddily interpreted as getting stomped last night and I'm voting for John Kerry, who handled himself far better than anyone suspected. So look out for the slant on my part. But Annenberg's factcheck.org is a pretty great resource for sussing out truth from fiction on both candidates' parts without any ostensible bias. In the first of three scheduled debates between Bush and Kerry...
